Over Rs 19 lakh looted from Central Bank in broad daylight

In a daring daylight robbery five armed dacoits on Tuesday looted more than Rs 19 lakh from a Central Bank of India branch in the busy Johari Bazaar area just a few metres away from the state police headquarters in Jaipur.

Armed with pistols and knives, the dacoits barged into the bank at around 10:30 am locked the bank staff in a room, looted Rs 19,50,000 from the cash counter and fled from the scene in a car.

"Police have sealed all exit and entry points of the city to track the unidentified robbers whose sketches are being drawn on the basis of information provided by the bank staff," state Director General of Police (DGP) Amarjot Singh Gill said.

"Forensic experts and dog squad have also reached the bank in search of more clues," he said.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the dacoits were keeping a close watch on the bank and its staff for the last few days as they were aware that the guard of the bank was on leave, I G (Jaipur Range) Pankaj Kumar Singh told PTI.

Johari Bazaar is one of the busiest markets in the Pink City. Most shops were open in the area when the dacoity took place.
